Timeform UK SmartPlays: Tuesday July 2

One of today's SmartPlays comes from Brighton

We split today's SmartPlays between the west of Scotland and the Sussex coast...

We start at Hamilton, in their 12-furlong handicap at 15:30. There's a three-year-old in attendance, namely Wadacre Sarko, but he doesn't look all that well in under a penalty for winning against his own age group at Beverley last time. More interesting is his chief rivalry for market superiority, Brigadoon. Somewhat fittingly given his name, Brigadoon finds everything to be in his favour only very rarely, but this appears to be one of those occasions. Raced over inadequate trips for most of the year so far, he gave the biggest hint yet that he's poised to strike when fourth in a better race than this at Doncaster last time, arguably left with too much to do. Now 3 lb lower in the weights than for his most recent success, this could be Brigadoon's day. NON RUNNER

Brighton is next of the agenda, their 16:45 in particular, and the argument for selection Decent Fella is far less nuanced: put simply, if he carries over his resurgence from last time when he won here over a slightly shorter trip, he will win. Timeform-rated 105 at his best, Decent Fella had spent much of the last two years sliding down the weights before storming back to win by an easy five lengths last week. Carrying a mere 6-lb penalty and representing a yard that has been among the winners of late, Decent Fella potentially has even more in hand than his current price gives him credit for.

We go back to Hamilton for SmartPlay number three, for whom the argument is fairly similar. Bondi Beach Boy is another short-priced favourite who should be even shorter. He has taken off in handicaps this year, winning three times over the minimum trip and showing plenty of speed on the most recent two. Crucially, Bondi Beach Boy has gone up a total of just 10 lb for his efforts (runs without a penalty here having won an apprentice race at Beverley last week) and that leaves this unexposed sort with plenty of room to improve further. He should be closer to even-money than current quotes around 2.89/5.
