David Cleary picks out bets from Hamilton and Brighton...

It's fair to say this afternoon's fare at Brighton and Hamilton is not the most appealing when it comes to identifying punting options. Most of the races are short on quality and either uncompetitive or trappy. With the excuses out of the way, the following make some appeal.

The sprint handicap at Hamilton at 17.00 is as competitive a race as there is all day. At first glance, Bondi Beach Boy looks to hold outstanding claims, unpenalized for a win in an apprentice race at Beverley a week ago. However, that was in a significantly lower grade and he was able to dominate from start to finish. That might not be so easy in today's company, and on his earlier form he's no good thing at these weights. Salvatore Fury also comes here in top form and although he doesn't appear so well in off a revised mark, his style of racing rather disguises his ability. He has won two of his last three starts and was beaten a nose in between, the first two of those runs coming over today's course and distance. Of the rest, Captain Scooby makes some appeal, simply with the very promising Connor Beasley riding first time, but, in a race which is likely to be run to suit him, Salvatore Fury gets the nod.

The sprint handicap which opens Brighton's card at 14.15 probably isn't a race in which to be getting heavily involved, but with Where's Reiley and Putin up in the weights and dominating the market, there ought to be something to take them on with. Johnny Splash and Little China make a bit of appeal in that regard. Johnny Splash is well in on all-weather form, was better than the result here last week and has good claimer Oisin Murphy riding for the first time. Little China didn't run well last time, but started a shortish price on the back of a more promising effort the time before and has slipped a fair way in the weights for a stable that has found a good vein of form in the past couple of weeks.
