Paul Hanagan will be aboard Ladys First at Pontefract.
Martin Dixon, Timeform's Chief Reporter, recommends two bets at Pontefract on Tuesday...
If you've got a free afternoon and you're anywhere in the vicinity, I'd suggest a trip to the brink of the M62 for an afternoon's racing at Pontefract, or "Ponty" as us relative locals prefer to call it. It's beaming with sunshine in West Yorkshire for one thing, whilst there's some good-quality fare on the racing front, notably the listed Pipalong Stakes at 16:00.
My preference in that 4:00 contest is for the tough, game and reliable Ladys First, and having now drifted out to 3.613/5 I think she's worth backing. It's true that she finished behind Gifted Girl at Epsom on Oaks day, and had no excuses there, but I feel the contrasting track at "Ponty" will be more in the favour of Ladys First, who is a strong-galloping filly. She'll hopefully be given a positive ride by Paul Hanagan, especially as there doesn't appear to be loads of pace in this contest, and she arrives on the back of what was arguably a career-best effort when second at Royal Ascot.
If we reverse half-an-hour to the 15:30, a 5f sprint for 3yo's, Teetotal looks overpriced to me at 4.47/2. Current favourite Jofranka is hard to knock on profile and form, but I don't like her draw for a front-runner, whilst much firmer conditions today could also be against her. Teetotal is in the form of his life at present, returns to a track where he dead-heated on his penultimate start and, perhaps crucially, is reunited with useful 5-lb claimer Jason Hart for the first time since hitting top form.
