US Politics: Romney odds narrow ahead of final debate

Gee Ann, the polls say we might be going to Washington...

Latest polls put candidates neck and neck in build up to Monday night's third and final debate...

The odds on Mitt Romney being the next president of the United States have narrowed to 2.9215/8 as some polls put him level with Barack Obama ahead of tonight's third and final debate.

The ex-senator's price drifted to 3.185/40 after Obama's victory in the second date last week. However, Romney has dusted himself down and got back on the campaign trail. That approach has yielded results with a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll putting him level with Obama on 47%.

Obama has drifted to 1.528/15, having come in to 1.454/9 as a result of his much-improved performance in last week's debate. He fluffed the first encounter in Denver but, last Tuesday on Long Island, he was by far the superior performer and looked to have got his campaign back on track.

Five days of ferocious Republican campaigning have meant that Romney is back in contention again. Tonight's final debate, which will focus on foreign policy, could prove crucial in tipping what looks likely to be one of the closest ever American election races.
