Arsene Wenger has a huge job on his hands tonight
Following Chelsea's exit it is now down to Manchester City and Arsenal to try and rescue some English pride in the Champions League.
The standard of English football again fell under the microscope after Chelsea were sent crashing out by a Paris Saint-Germain side that were reduced to ten men and were not fancied by many to reach the last eight.
The performances of Arsenal and Manchester City has added fuel to the fire of those that suggest the English teams are way off the pace when it comes to competing with Europe's best on the biggest stage of all.
But at least they have the chance to put things right over the next couple of nights, but question is can they make the most of it?
First up is Arsenal on Tuesday night. You can almost forgive Manchester City for losing 2-1 at home to Barcelona, but the 3-1 home defeat against a Monaco side more famed for defending than attacking came as a real hammer blow to the Gunners.
Our Monaco v Arsenal Betting Preview is here.
To make matters worse, it was no fluke, Monaco thoroughly deserved the 3-1 win and will be confident of seeing the job out in the second leg.
History is on their side as no team in Champions League history has ever overturned such a deficit, and the job will be even harder for the Gunners considering how strong Monaco are at the back.
The Ligue 1 side did not concede a single goal in their three home group games earlier in the competition, and Arsenal will need to score at least three to have any chance of making the quarter-finals.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been positive in the build up to the game and he has to believe because, if he doesn't, then what chance do the players have?
But when on their game, Arsenal have proved they can score goals against anyone.
Much of that responsibility could weigh heavily on the shoulders of French striker Olivier Giroud, who came in for some heavy criticism after missing some glaring opportunities in the first leg.
Since then the striker has shown great mental strength, responding well when firing home three goals in his last four games, including a fierce strike in the 3-0 win over West Ham at the weekend, so confidence should be high.
Arsenal have goals all over the park and, once again, Alexis Sanchez is the man that Arsenal could turn to in their hour of need.
The Chilean has been a revelation since arriving from Barcelona in the summer and will have to bring his A game to the table again this evening if the Gunners are to have a chance.
While scoring goals will be crucial, Arsenal cannot afford any slip ups at the back and Wenger will be delighted to have Gabriel Paulista back in his squad after recovering from a hamstring injury.
All the right noises are also coming from the City camp with David Silva claiming they have nothing to lose and will go all out against a Barca side, who will not be sitting back to defend their 2-1 advantage
City have it all to do and there will need to be a mammoth improvement on the performance that saw them lose further ground in the Premier League title race when going down to struggling Burnley at the weekend.
With Chelsea on course to win the title, the Champions League could be Manuel Pellegrini's salvation and they should have no problem raising their game, but the question remains, will it be enough?
Both Arsenal and City can take heart from the performances of Schalke and PSG when winning against Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively last week, and equally impressive displays will be needed if they are to keep the English flag flying high for at least one more round.
