Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Birdie taken to make a flying start

The O'Brien's team up with Bye Bye Birdie at Naas.

Timeform's Irish team have three bets lined up for this evening's card at Naas...

The market should offer assistance in the 17:15 but Bye Bye Birdie is likely to be forward enough to be competitive on debut, and gets the nod. The Aidan O'Brien-trained filly, who cost 300,000 gns as a foal, is a daughter of Oasis Dream and from family of high-class winner at up to 1m Eagle Mountain. She holds an entry in the Phoenix Stakes and her trainer introduced Maybe in this event two years ago, with that one making a successful debut prior to hitting the mark in her next four starts.

September Lily got the better of Great Ability at Cork on Friday, and may be able to follow-up in the 19:50 despite a 5 lb penalty. The four-year-old finally got off the mark five days ago and there is every chance that, having got her head in front, she could do so once more although Stoichkhov looks in decent nick at present and is certainly a danger.

Until Midnight and New Regalia are both open to improvement now handicapping in the 20:50, but last-time-out winners Paynes Find and Our Manekineko could be the pair to focus on, with the former preferred back at 1m. The three-year-old, by Holy Roman Emperor and closely related to 2 winners, proved to be a different proposition on handicap bow when a narrow winner of a 7f event at Gowran last week. A 4 lb rise for that win looks fair with return to 1m very much in his favour.
