Sir Mark Prescott trains our final SmartPlay Alcaeus
We're off to Lingfield and Hamilton for today's SmartPlays...
Mark Tompkins is yet to saddle a winner this campaign, but we think his luck could be about to change today when he sends out the lightly-raced Topamichi (15.20 Lingfield). The three-year-old Beat Hollow gelding made a respectable return to action last month at Yarmouth and bettered that when second behind a Sir Mark Prescott improver at Redcar last time. However he was clear of the rest on that occasion and that looks like the best form on offer. With Tom Queally booked and today's race appearing to lack strength in depth, hopefully Topamichi can get us off to a flying start.
Andrew Balding has made a good start to the current campaign and his Butterfly McQueen should be able to go close in the 15:50 at Lingfield. With only two starts under her belt so far, this unexposed filly remains with potential and her recent second on reappearance over this trip at Chester in May is looking strong form. This should be an ideal opportunity for her to break the maiden tag.
Sir Mark Prescott is renowned for finding improvement with horses stepping up in trip and Alcaeus is of real interest in the 17:10 at Hamilton. He was unplaced in a trio of seven-furlong maidens on the polytrack last summer, but appreciated the step up to ten furlongs at Redcar on handicap debut to score earlier this month. Stepping up further and racing under a penalty, he should take all the beating today.
