Rulesn'regulations posted one of his best recent efforts at Brighton last time and would certainly have been of interest in Nottingham's 15:00 but, with the Alastair Lidderdale-trained gelding a non-runner, it is worth taking a chance on Parisian Pyramid. The seven-year-old is on a long losing run but his sliding handicap mark reflects that and he ought to find this assignment easier than the races he has contested throughout the majority of his career. The suspicion is that he may have been in need of his recent return at Newmarket, on his first outing having re-joined Patrick Morris, and it would come as no surprise were he to do better with a visor fitted for the first time. 

Nottingham's 16:05 looked set to be dominated by Iffraaj Pink and Sharqawiyah but, with the first mentioned a non-runner, it could prove to be a relatively straightforward task for the Luca Cumani-trained Sharqawiyah, a half-sister to the useful Ptolemaic. The three-year-old has progressed well with racing so far, running her best race yet at Ascot last time despite shaping as though the ten furlongs faced that day was far enough at this stage of her career. She is just the type that her superb trainer excels with, will be suited by this drop in trip and has to be high on any shortlist as she makes her first foray into handicaps.  

The Hilary Needler Trophy lost its listed status a couple of years ago but this is an intriguing renewal, with several fillies likely to improve upon what they have shown to date. Lexington Rose has looked professional on her three visits to the track and will be suited by this stiffer test but similar comments apply to Mops Angel, trained by Michael Appleby. The two-year-old has already demonstrated her liking for an uphill finish, getting off the mark at Pontefract in a maiden won by last year's Hilary Needler victor Jadanna, and although she may prove best at six furlongs in time the demands of this venue will suit and seems likely to improve further.
