Timeform Radio Tips: Chocala to be King at Nottingham

With my focus being firmly on the Flat racing through the summer, I'll stick to Nottingham for the best bets this afternoon, starting by taking two against the field in the sprint handicap at 14:30. Point North impressed me when landing a gamble in first-time blinkers on his penultimate start and had excuses next time. He's a bit quirky, but a mark of 65 underestimates his ability, and he was a soft-ground course winner earlier in his career. Common Cents is the unexposed one in the field and should have benefited from a break since a disappointing favourite on handicap debut in early-April, while based on pedigree testing conditions won't be a problem. 

The 3-y-o handicap at 16:40 has a fairly open look to it, but I'm happy to take on the early favourite, Hello Sailor, who had every chance in a weaker race than this on handicap debut, and Chocala is the one to be with. Alan King's gelding is stoutly-bred and shaped as if he were crying out for even more of a stamina test when fifth in a hot race at York earlier this month, and that's exactly what he gets up in distance this afternoon. He's a horse that has a high knee action and hits the ground hard, so I think today's deteriorating conditions are also a big plus.
