Magic City goes in the 14:35 at Goodwood.

With two of yesterday's SmartPlays hitting the mark, our team are full of confidence ahead of Friday's three selections...

Goodwood's 14:35 is a competitive handicap staged over seven furlongs, featuring plenty of horses with interesting profiles. A list of such contenders would comprise the likes of Accession, who is well handicapped on old form and is re-fitted with headgear, and Flexible Flyer, who will be suited by the return to this trip, but we are willing to take a chance on Magic City. The four-year-old, trained by Richard Hannon, has been lightly raced since making a highly impressive winning debut at Newbury as a juvenile but he caught the eye on his seasonal return at Leicester last month, travelling better than most and not being given a hard time once it became clear that he had little chance from his position. The suspicion is that he will come good soon and, at his current price of 14.013/1, he is well worth sticking with here. 

Yarmouth's 15:55 doesn't strike as being a particularly strong event and it can go the way of the John Berry-trained Gift Of Silence, who shaped like the best horse at the weights when runner-up at this venue on handicap debut last month. The four-year-old took a step forward that day, running her best race to date, and though she was only a cheap purchase, costing just 800 gns as a three-year-old, it appeals as being money well spent and she has a big chance of landing her first win with the additional furlong faced here expected to suit. 

Our final SmartPlay goes on this evening's card at Musselburgh, with Wicked Wilma fancied to land the 19:15. The nine-year-old thrived in the summer of 2011, hitting the mark on four occasions, and though she drew a blank last year she was at least consistent, running to a similar level on the vast majority of her outings. She has been kept busy this term, shaping better than the bare result on a couple of occasions, and the suspicion is that she may just be coming to the boil having dropped to a feasible handicap mark.
