Sir Michael Stoute's Elik has improved with each run
Timeform examine each runner in the listed Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood...
Contradict was much improved on second start in handicaps when winning 6-runner event over this trip at Salisbury last week by 6 lengths from Arbaah. Clearly going the right way, but this is altogether tougher.
Elik is a well-bred filly from top stable. Bettered form shown in maidens when 3 lengths fourth of 10 to Banoffee in Cheshire Oaks last time, keeping on when bumped in latter stages. Will do better yet.
Glenreef left debut form for Pat Eddery well behind when landing a 1m Southwell maiden in March, but below that form in handicaps since, and looks out of her depth in listed company
Harbinger Lass ran above market expectations when second to Banoffee in a Newbury maiden last month, but only third next time, and well beaten behind same rival in Cheshire Oaks last time.
Harmonic Note showed steady progress in nurseries in the autumn, off the mark at Dundalk in November. Unlucky not to finish closer when fourth in listed race at Navan last time, and every chance on balance of form.
Heading North is more exposed than most, but good placed efforts both starts this term, beaten only by much-improved handicap debutant at Pontefract (1m) earlier this month. Deserves a crack at this level.
High Time Too was placed on all 3 starts in AW maidens up to 11f, and better than bare result when third on handicap bow at Kempton last time. Should have more to offer, but takes a big step up here.
Of Course Darling stepped up on 2-y-o form when making winning reappearance in 8.6f Wolverhampton handicap in April. Creditable second at Lingfield last time, but plenty more to find to get competitive here.
Starlight Symphony left her first 2 efforts well behind when winning Doncaster maiden last July (7f), and creditable effort on seasonal reappearance there last month. Only fifth at Newmarket last time, however.
Trapeze stepped up on debut effort when winning 7f maiden at Salisbury in October. Not knocked about on return, and unlucky when second in 1m handicap here last time. Not yet fully exposed.
Valtina is a Teofilo half-sister to smart miler Prince d'Alienor. Won 1m Haydock maiden on debut last month, but possibly flattered when close-up last of 6 in listed race at Newbury last Friday.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Elik
2. Harmonic Note
3. Heading North
Timeform View: Elik was unlucky not to finish closer when fourth in the Cheshire Oaks, and can play a major role here with improvement to come. Harmonic Note and Heading North are a bit more exposed, but have every chance on form, and need consideration.
