"Despite his victory in the Steel City Cup at Sheffield, Skywalker Louie hasn’t been given the respect he deserves given his excellent recent strike rate, but that should ensure better odds for Elaine Parker’s runner who can win the first heat (20:58) to take his tally to three from four over the course and trip"
Racing Post Greyhound TV fans are spoilt rotten again this weekend with the start of the All England Cup and Northern Puppy Derby from Newcastle on Saturday backed up with Crayford's Kent St Leger semi-finals and all that on top of the Henlow Derby semis on Thursday night. Darrell Williams has been slaving over the cards to find the week's best bets.
Fresh from winning the East Anglian Derby a fortnight ago, Bubbly Phoenix and his legion of Champagne Club owners will fancy their chances of following up in the All England Cup after Paul Young's charge posted a brace of eye-catching trials over Newcastle's 480m trip. Admittedly his first round heat (22:18) could hardly be tougher with any number of potential hazards - particularly if Bowtime Regan happened to break as he did last week - but 'Phoenix' should still take all the beating.
Harry Williams is always a man to fear at 'Brough' with Mags Gamble (21:15) and Tudor Prince (21:32) both fancied to win their heats. The former, who won the Monmore Gold Cup in August, could hardly be in better form over the CD with five wins from his last six attempts, and while his make-up - in the middle of a five seeded runner sandwich - is fraught with dangers, his versatile running style should enable him to come out on top.
Tudor Prince faces a tough battle himself with Alien Planet looking back to his best, but the soon to be veteran campaigner was runner-up in this event last year and will have no qualms about his trap two draw.
Despite his victory in the Steel City Cup at Sheffield, Skywalker Louie hasn't been given the respect he deserves given his excellent recent strike rate, but that should ensure better odds for Elaine Parker's runner who can win the first heat (20:58) to take his tally to three from four over the course and trip.
Layers are directed towards Airlie Impact (22:03) whose draw in trap four rather dampens his appeal.
Four heats of the Northern Puppy Derby ensure Newcastle is a 'must-watch' with Greenwell Mentor (20:26) making most appeal. Pat Flaherty's youngster made a good impressive on his debut last weekend and his early speed should ensure he can 'control the fractions'.
Express Flame is fancied to return to winning ways from a good looking trap six berth (20:42), and while Chris Allsopp's charge will need to trap better than she did last week, her stamina should ensure the right result.Litter-brother Express Rover, despite the lack of a previous look at the circuit, can initiate a double in the first heat at 19:54.
Despite clocking the fastest time in the heats last week Westmead Amour still appears to have been under-estimated for the Kent St Leger at Crayford, which should ensure Ricky Holloway's charge goes off at a reasonable price in his semi-final (21:24). He had previously caught the eye in a trial stakes and can stalk Carden Twilight before unleashing his trade mark finish.
Most of the 'big guns' made it safely through to Henlow's Derby semi-finals - live on Thursday night - which remains wide-open, but prolific winning Farloe Warhawk could be clear favourite ahead of next week's final after a favourable draw. The Puppy Derby winner will be very short for his semi-final (21:15) and an ante-post wager 3.185/40 might make more appeal.
Bush Bandit remains unbeaten, taking his tally to four from four (all at Henlow), after another fast run last week and is drawn to advantage with Any Dak likely to edge inwards in his semi-final (20:42).
Taylors Sky, the defending champion and track-record holder, also remains unbeaten from four runs at the Bedfordshire track but faces a stiff task to get across from trap four and could be worth a speculative lay (20:58). Unconsidered Yeatsie Boy's early speed is a major asset and Derek Law's improving local runner can spring the surprise.
