Graham Lee takes the ride on Another For Joe this evening.
We go to Chester for the first of today's SmartPlays before heading up to Hamilton for a couple of selections at their evening meeting...
David O'Meara is undoubtedly rising up the training ranks at a fair rate of knots, with his ability to eke improvement out of horses formerly trained elsewhere particularly striking, and he can take the opening event of Chester's third and final day of their May festival thanks to Gandalak. Formerly with Alain de Royer-Dupre in France, he's already made all at and Musselburgh in recent weeks, at the latter venue on soft ground just seven days ago, so with conditions likely to be on the easy side again today and from a fair draw on a track that should suit, he seems certain to make a bold hat-trick bid.
Hamilton's evening card sees Karaka Jack aiming to get back on the scoreboard after running a an excellent race when only beaten by the unexposed Luca Cumani-trained Rockalong in an Ascot handicap last weeek, but all four of his career victories have come over seven furlongs and with that in mind he looks opposable here, with Another For Joe possibly the one to take advantage. A dual course-and-distance winner under today's pilot Graham Lee last term, he wasn't knocked about when finishing eighth on his reappearance at Haydock a couple of weeks ago and is likely to step up a fair bit with that under his belt. Having won second-time-up in 2012, we'll be with him to follow suit this time around.
The final race at the Scottish venue is a six furlong handicap where Economic crisis and Greenhead High renew rivalry just five days after filling the first two spots in a similar course-and-distance event, though they may both be worth opposing on this occasion with the Violet Jordan-trained Decent Fella, one of two horses she has entered. Although he hasn't won for a while, he looks thrown-in on old form and he's offered a couple of signs recently that he's capable of taking advantage of this career-low mark in the near future, finishing with running left over the minimum trip at Chepstow last week. Julie Burke takes another 3 lb off his back, which is a further bonus.
