Swinton Hurdle: Timeform's runner-by-runner guide

Alan King's Turn Over Sivola can win the Swinton Hurdle

Timeform examine each runner in the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock...

Starluck was a very smart 2m hurdler at peak, and best effort for some time (away from soft ground) when a narrow winner at Cheltenham a month ago. Again claimer ridden, and has conditions to suit.

Forgotten Voice is a former Royal Hunt Cup winner who has won 3 of his 5 starts over hurdles, losing little caste in defeat behind My Tent Or Yours at Aintree earlier last month. Just about the pick of the weights.

Local Hero was runner-up in 2012 Scottish Champion Hurdle prior to back-to-back wins at Market Rasen. Now 3 lb below latter win, but could only manage fifth in aforementioned contest last month.

Mr Mole is a quirky but talented sort who made a mockery of lenient initial mark at Taunton in February. Not persevered with in Imperial Cup, but again looked less than straightforward behind Starluck latest.

Toubab is a strong traveller who chased home Sprinter Sacre in Grade 1 at Aintree a year ago. Easily best effort last season when winning at Doncaster but this a competitive race for return to hurdling.

Baby Mix was a very useful juvenile hurdler in 2011/12 when on a going day, but temperamental side very much in evidence in a light campaign last season, and has questions to answer at present.

Bygones of Brid's latest success was in 2010 (Grade 2 at Kelso). Potentially well treated on pick of efforts, but 2 comeback runs last month (missed 2012) suggest he won't scale same heights.

Cape Express was a relative latecomer to hurdling, but quickly made up for lost time when completing a 4-timer in ready fashion at Aintree in October. Ascot run a week later came too soon, but saved for this.

Cry of Freedom got it right at the fifth attempt in handicaps fitted with a visor when making all at Taunton 9 days ago. Unexposed, so 6 lb rise in a better race not bound to find him out if headgear works again.

Silk Hall showed that most of his ability remains intact (off 19 months prior to reappearance) when third in minor event at Downpatrick and occupied same position in valuable handicap at Ayr. Back on correct mark.

Turn Over Sivola is a maiden/novice hurdle winner at Plumpton early last season, and caught the eye several times in handicaps before getting it right at Wincanton last month. 11 lb rise justified given manner of win.

Ruler of All was a dual hurdles winner for Edward O'Grady in Ireland early in 2011 but lightly raced and disappointing since, his debut fourth for this yard at Stratford well short fo the required standard.

Street Entertainer put up a useful effort when landing competitive 4-y-o hurdle at Punchestown in 2011 and has dropped to a tempting mark after a mixed time in handicaps. Shaped well at Ascot in November and saved for this.

Deepsand was fair on the Flat and and, despite not looking a natural over hurdles, he emphatically added to his maiden success on handicap debut at Perth last month. Can progress again, but this is a different test.

Rumble of Thunder is well handicapped on pick of form for Kate Walton, and finally took advantage of a falling mark at Newcastle early last month. Got first run that day, and 8 lb rise in a deeper race to deal with.

Specialagent Alfie improved to win on handicap debut at Sandown in February 2012, and arrives here on the back of a career best when runner-up to Court Minstrel (subsequent winner) at Plumpton in March.

Red Inca was a decisive winner of 2m Ludlow maiden hurdle last February and right back to best when landing Fixed Brush handicap at Haydock in March. Quickly back on the up when a neck second of 5 at Ayr.

Barizan was a front-running Grade 1-winning juvenile hurdler in 2010. Attitude took turn for worse after, but February's Taunton success from 4 lb lower at least confirmd he's still competitive on a going day.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Turn Over Sivola
2. Forgotten Voice
3. Mr Mole

Timeform View: Forgotten Voice is just about the pick of the weights on his decisive Grade 2 Dovecote Stakes success, but his turn of foot may well be better utilised in small-field contests, so with that in mind, Turn Over Sivola gets the verdict after a taking Wincanton victory last month. Dangers as expected are aplenty, with the talented Mr Mole a major player.
