Racing News: Sequence pencilled in for Ascot

Main Sequence (right) could be in action at Ascot.

David Lanigan's Derby runner-up Main Sequence is set to kick off the new campaign in the Buckhounds Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week...

The Niarchos family-owned four-year-old, who has had a gelding operation, was unbeaten in his first four career starts before finding only Camelot too strong in the premier Classic at Epsom last June.

Main Sequence, rated 119 by Timeform, went on to run well in the Grand Prix de Paris, the Great Voltigeur at York and the St Leger at Doncaster, and his trainer is looking forward to seeing him return to action in Listed company on May 11.

Lanigan said: "He's in good shape. He went to Kempton for a racecourse gallop on Wednesday. He just went over a mile and I was pleased with him.

"The plan at the moment is to start him off in the Buckhounds at Ascot and we'll just take it one race at a time with him.

"He's done well over the winter and he's just started to come in his coat the last couple of weeks, which is nice to see.

"He's been gelded since he last ran and seems a bit happier in himself, but he still likes to have a jump around from time to time.

"We'll see how he goes at Ascot and make a plan from there."

Lanigan's other major hope for this season is progressive stayer Biographer, who carries a Timeform rating of 114p.

The son of Montjeu won three of his six starts in 2012, signing off with an impressive display in a listed event at Ascot in October.

The four-year-old is heading north of the border for his return to action.

"Hopefully he'll go to Hamilton on May 17 for a Listed handicap up there (Braveheart Stakes)," said Lanigan.

"I was always looking forward to this year with him and it will be good to get the ball rolling.

"Physically he has done well. He's never going to be the biggest or most robust horse, being by Montjeu, but he looks well and I'm happy with him.

"Again, we'll get his first run out of the way before we make any plans."
