Simenon heads the weights for the Chester Cup.

Willie Mullins' Simenon heads the weights for the Chester Cup following the defection of Overturn at the confirmation stage...

Simenon was a tremendous servant to Ireland's champion jumps trainer last year, winning the Queen Alexandra and Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Mullins has taken out his other entry, Midnight Game, while there other Irish possibles in the shape of Dermot Weld's Olympiad, Justification from Aidan O'Brien's stable and the Gordon Elliott-trained Bondage.

The latter, however, is far from a guaranteed a place in a maximum 17-strong line-up after 39 were left in the Chester Cup, which is staged over an extended two and a quarter miles on Wednesday.

Overturn will not bid to reclaim the crown he won in 2011, but his trainer Donald McCain has left in Ile De Re, who pushed Overturn back into second spot 12 months ago.

John Quinn's Countrywide Flame, who currently heads the market at 7.0n/a, stands his ground along with others prominent in the betting, such as Jonjo O'Neill's Tominator and the David Simock-trained Montaser.
