Dan Shak Leads as the Aussie Millions Main Event Reaches its Final Table

The 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event has reached its seven-handed final table, and it is high-stakes specialist Dan Shak who is the man to catch when play resumes at 14:30 local time (03:30GMT).

Shak, who won the $100,000 Challenge at the 2010 Aussie Millions, starts the final table with 3,775,000 chips, which gives him a slender lead over his nearest rival, Jarrod Glennon and his 3,600,000 stack. Las Vegas-based Shak already has a massive score in 2012 -- he picked up $846,700 for his second place finish at the $100,000 Super High Roller event at the PCA in January - and now he is guaranteed AU$220,000 and could leave Australia with AU$1,600,000 should he win this tournament.

Although Shak ended the penultimate day as the chip leader, it could have been another story had a hand with Daniel Laidlaw played out differently. In the hand, which resulted in Laidlaw's exit, Laidlaw opened to 40,000 from the button, Shak three-bet to 145,000 in the big blind and Laidlaw four-bet shoved for 600,000. Shak snap-called and turned over Ac-7c and was up against the Ah-Kh of Laidlaw. The Js-9h-2h flop left Shak drawing very thin, as the seven of hearts would have improved Laidlaw to a flush. The turn was the 7d, giving Shak the lead and that is how it stayed because the 3s on the river did not alter the hand at all and Shak saw his stack swell.

Joining Shak on the final table are David Yan, Joseph Cabret, Mervin Chan and the better known Jay Tan and Patrik Antonius - the latter starting the finale third in chips with a 3,345,000 stack. These players know they are just six eliminations away from a potentially life-changing first place prize of AU$1,600,000, which includes a Chrysler 300C.
