Our final SmartPlay comes from Lingfield today
We head to each of today's three UK meetings (Catterick, Leicester and Lingfield) for our SmartPlays.
Catterick's card opens with a handicap hurdle for lady amateurs and local trainer Philip Kirby looks to hold a strong hand in the shape of Stormy Morning, a winner on the all-weather already this year, and Avanos, who won an event at Market Rasen on his last spin over timber and seems sure to benefit from a recent pipe-opener over fences at Newcastle after seven months off the track. With the yard in good nick at present, it wouldn't be a surprise if these two were involved in the finish, with preference for the latter.
To continue the theme we now pop over to Leicester for their opener where Gers Benefit may go one better than when last seen at Towcester in December. A winner of a point previously, she was disappointing over hurdles in Ireland but she jumped well and travelled fine before succumbing on the run in to Gorgehous Lliege at the Northamptonshire track on just her second try over fences and, with more progress likely, she seems sure to play a part here.
Broxbourne is likely to be a popular choice in Lingfield's finale as Mark Johnston's filly strives for a four-timer, but a further 7 lb rise for her most recent Wolverhampton victory and a question mark stamina-wise now stepped up to two miles may open the door to her rivals, in particular to Beat Route. Michael Attwater's six-year-old was running really well here at the turn of the year, looking unlucky when a badly-hampered third over C&D on his latest outing, and compensation awaits.
