Charlie Beljan looks way over-priced this week

The Betting.Betfair golf team are looking for win and place value once again in our weekly each-way column. We hit paydirt with Jason Day last week, have we found any winners in the Honda Classic field?

I don't quite understand why Charlie Beljan has been shown such little respect by the layers this week. On his sole PGA Tour start in Florida to date he won the Children's Miracle Classic in November last year and the last time we saw him out, two weeks ago at Riviera in the Northern Trust Open, he bravely made birdie on the tough 18th to get into a playoff. Although John Merrick beat him in extra holes, Beljan topped the Greens In Regulation stats for the week and given that all bar one winner at this week's venue has ranked inside the top-10 for that stat, he looks very much over-priced at 201.0n/a.

Joe Dyer - Back Ernie Els @ 51.0n/a
In a top heavy betting field let's take a chance on a former winner available at a decent price. Four-time major champion Ernie Els won this in 2008, so we know he has the game to perform here, and can be backed at 50-1 to repeat five years later. Els' last four PGA Tour victories have come in Florida, where he now resides, and he's eased himself into this season nicely, finishing tied 13th at the Northern Trust Open before going out to in-form Freddie Jacobson at last week's WGC Matchplay. 

Paul Krishnamurty - Back Justin Rose @ 15.014/1
The presence of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the Honda Classic field means there are some attractive prices available on top-class players, about whom each-way betting is rarely a realistic option. Take the example of Justin Rose. The world number six has rewarded top-five backers on his last two visits to PGA National and has plainly improved in the meantime. Justin has been virtually impossible to keep out of contention lately, finishing top-six on five of his last seven starts, always in top-class company. Given that neither Tiger or Rory looked anywhere near peak form at last week's World Matchplay, Rose rates rock solid value in this field.

Dan Geraghty - Back Camilo Villegas @ 126.0n/a
Formerly ranked as high as no.18 in the world, Villegas finished 144th on the money list last year, failing to earn his tour card; he has conditional status on tour and is largely relying on sponsor exemptions this season. The Colombian must take his chances when they arrive and this week, on a course he enjoys, represents a good chance. Villegas was third here in 2007 and went on to win the title in 2010. His 2013 results don't read well but I'm willing to take a chance on a former winner who somehow tops the PGA Tour greens in regulation stats this year. He can turn back the clock and become the first non-American victor on tour this year. Or at least come second to Tiger Woods.
