Harry Fry trains Racing Plus Chase winner Opening Batsman
Harry Fry's Opening Batsman got the better of the Paul Nicholls-trained Rolling Aces in a thrilling finish to the Racing Plus Chase...
Fry is in his first season as a fully-fledged trainer after previously being an assistant to Nicholls and Opening Batsman's victory was the biggest success of his career so far.
The race got off to a dramatic start as Mister Hyde crashed out spectacularly at the first fence while previous dual winner Nacarat whacked the eighth and lost all chance from there.
Another previous winner Quinz did much of the leg work in front and, as the well-supported favourite Wyck Hill backpedalled from the 12th, he looked to be in a strong position.
However, Rolling Aces was travelling well on the outside while Opening Batsman was making ground on the inner and the pair pulled clear after the second-last fence.
They took the last together, but Opening Batsman found extra on the run-in for jockey Noel Fehily to win by two lengths with Duke Of Lucca a further six lengths back in third.
