Kempton Placepot: Wednesday November 7

Kempton is the target of today's Placepot.

Timeform's Matt Gardner heads to Kempton in search of Placepot triumph...

16:25 - It is difficult to get away from Blank Czech in the opening leg, who looks to have been found a decent opportunity by connections to get off the mark. None of his four rivals make any great appeal and he ought to see us safely through.

16:55 - Ellemujie, trained by the in-form Dean Ivory, is best forgiven a below-par effort on unsuitably heavy ground at Nottingham last time and he appeals as likely to go close now returned to the polytrack. Danube River is possibly the best option to take as a second selection, with the three-year-old having the potential to do better back on this surface having seemingly failed to handle the fibresand at Southwell on her latest outing.

17:25 - Tarbawi sets a fair standard here but we're going to take him on with a brace of juveniles who are likely to improve for their initial racecourse experience. The first one to make the cut is Rottingdean, who looked badly in need of his debut at Newmarket and has the potential to progress significantly, whilst Tebbit offered something to work on when seventh at Lingfield, being fairly patiently ridden, and he should also do better now.

17:55 - Swift Bounty and Twary are the pair to side with here, with the former making plenty of appeal following her second-placed effort over C&D last month. She only just failed to get up that day, beaten a nose by Birdlover, and she seems likely to go very close. We have a decent chance of doubling-up with Twary, who cost $200,000 as a yearling and shaped with plenty of encouragement on debut at Haydock whilst looking as though in need of the experience. He is sure to progress with that under his belt.

18:25 - Italian Riviera, a Galileo half-brother to Ebor winner Moyenne Corniche, has finished down the field in a trio of maidens this year, looking in need of the experience on each occasion. Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, the three-year-old steps up to two miles today and has the profile of one who could take off in handicaps, so he goes in as our second banker of the evening.

18:55 - With just two places to aim at we're faced with a relatively tricky puzzle in the final leg, but the pair to side with are Viking Storm and Modun. The former has taken his form to a new level this year, winning on four of his five starts and improving on each occasion. There is potential for him to progress further still, and he has to be respected. Modun developed into a smart performer for Sir Michael Stoute last year and returned to form for current connections over C&D in the September Stakes. His latest effort is best forgiven, the sharp Chester track unlikely to have been ideal and it possibly came too soon on the back of his Kempton effort. Were he to bounce back he would have a definite chance.
