Wayne Mardle: Power to light up the Premier League

It's very hard to oppose Phil Taylor

The Premier League goes to Aberdeen and our man Wayne Mardle is chasing more winners in his weekly tipping column...

Wes Newton v Raymond van Barneveld
Wes missed far too many darts at doubles last week and if he does anything like that against the in-form Dutchman this could be over pretty swiftly.
I don't fancy Newton will be able to settle here as Barney is clearly on fire - he had the highest average last week of 102.
Barney likes to dominate and if he starts off well I can't see any way back for Wes.

Andy Hamilton v James Wade
James was lucky last week. If Newton had hit even 30% of his doubles, he would have lost.
The Hammer doesn't like giving chances away and I think he can do a job here.
Wade has to improve if he is to make the playoffs while Hamilton's form is of no concern.

Gary Anderson v Simon Whitlock
A tricky one to call. Gary will hit 180s but miss double, that's just the way he does it.
Whitlock wasn't at his best last week but still beat Lewis pretty convincingly.
If this comes down to the odd dart at a double there is only one winner, Whitlock.

Adrian Lewis v Phil Taylor
How times change - two seasons ago it would have been a real tough ask to pick the winner of this match. Now, Lewis' declining game makes it seem a formality. On form, you can't back against the Power here although, on his day, Lewis is one player Taylor just can't handle.
But at the moment his game is in tatters. He can blitz for a match, which no doubt he will do in this Premier League, but it doesn't happen anywhere as often as it used to.

Robert Thornton v Michael van Gerwen
MVG was livid after letting Phil Taylor steal a point from him last week.
While Michael gave a point away, the Thorn earned his. He finished superbly and if he can play like that again I think this could be close, maybe even a draw.
Nevertheless, I'm going for MVG as he has become a reliable sort who seldom plays a bad game.
