Runners at Ludlow, Carlisle and Kempton come under the spotlight in today's UK SmartPlays.

In keeping with many from the Venetia Williams stable, Reginaldinho (14:10 Ludlow) is at the top of his game at present and he can add to his brace of victories achieved at Leicester last month. Carrying a penalty for those successes over 21 furlongs, this step up to three miles should hold no fears for him and with further progress expected, a bold hat-trick bid is expected.

Carlisle's meeting has passed an early-morning inspection and they host a cracking-looking Pertemps qualifier with several up-and-coming hurdlers facing more seasoned handicappers. Shutthefrontdoor (16:05 Carlisle) is firmly in the former category, taking a trio of bumpers last term, beating several decent sorts into the bargain, before landing a pair of events over timber at the turn of the year. He starts life in handicaps off a fair mark and almost certainly hasn't revealed all he's capable of yet.

Tony Carroll declared four horses for the 1 mile handicap that forms the second race on Kempton's evening card and though that number has since been reduced, he still holds decent claims of landing the prize through the veteran Lytham (17:35 Kempton). A seven-time course winner, the 12-year-old shaped well on several occasions last year despite failing to add to that total and an eye-catching return from a break at Wolverhampton just over a month ago marked him down as one to be with once returning to his favourite venue.
