Timeform UK SmartPlays: Friday February 22

Two of today's bets run at Warwick.

Timeform's SmartPlays team have found three bets for Friday's action, with selections running at both Lingfield and Warwick...

We begin on the polytrack at Lingfield with Flavius Victor making plenty of appeal in the 14:30, a handicap over a mile. The four-year-old, formerly trained by Richard Hannon, got himself off the mark on debut for this yard at this venue in December and followed that up with a fair fourth last month. He was relatively unlucky not to finish closer that day, racing off the pace and making steady headway before encountering trouble and being forced to switch a furlong out, staying on after that but being unable to reel in the principals. Likely main rival For Shia And Lula also suffered bad luck in running last time and has to be respected but Flavius Victor is well worth a chance to show himself as being well-treated on a mark of 68.

Warwick's conditional and amateur jockey's handicap hurdle at 14:40 is wide open, with any number in with some sort of chance. Current market leader Dawn Free is less exposed than the majority of his rivals and is of interest on his return from over a year off but the one that takes our eye is Majestic Bull, trained by Susan Gardner. The seven-year-old had plenty in hand when scoring at Bangor in December and, although disappointing on his next start, it is a distinct possibility that he found that race coming too soon after just 12 days off. It is worth bearing in mind that up until that point he had looked to be progressing, and with connections sensible giving him a lengthier break he is given another chance to prove that he is still on a decent mark.

Warwick's 15:50 is an excellent race, featuring the likes of Little Josh, Niceonefrankie, Problema Tic and Frisco Depot. The last mentioned, a Grade 2 winner as a novice in Ireland, is likely to prove popular but was let down badly by his jumping when last seen in the Hennessy Gold Cup and the Charlie Longsdon yard is in worryingly poor form at present so it may be best to side with Problema Tic. The seven-year-old progressed well over fences last term, hitting the mark on three occasions, and he shaped well on his seasonal debut at Cheltenham in November. He was travelling well when coming to grief in the Becher Chase last time and was all the rage in a valuable Ascot handicap prior to being declared a non-runner, a factor well worth bearing in mind, and he is taken to add to his tally racing off what strikes as being a fair mark.

Timeform SmartPlays:
Back Flavius Victor @ 4.03/1 in the 14:30 at Lingfield
Back Majestic Bull @ 9.89/1 in the 14:40 at Warwick
Back Problema Tic @ 6.611/2 in the 15:50 at Warwick
