Hughie Morrison sends Cousin Khee to race on the Flat

Our first SmartPlay runs in the 14:45 at Catterick as we take a chance on Everdon Brook continuing his good run of form. Though beaten in search of the hat-trick last time, Everdon Brook still shaped extremely well in finishing second, actually progressing further and producing career-best effort. He travelled for much of the race like the best horse, picking up the running on the bridle two flights from home before being collared in the closing stages. There is little reason to think he won't run well again and he can hopefully get us off to a flying start.

Making his belated Flat debut, Cousin Khee is entitled to plenty of respect, entering the 15:10 at Lingfield on the back of two impressive jumpers' bumpers victories. Hughie Morrison's charge has always shown ability, making up into a fairly useful handicap hurdler, and he looks well worth a go on the level based on the amount of speed he displayed when dispatching his rivals in jumpers' bumpers. He hasn't found the weakest maiden, however, as some rivals have also hinted at possessing ability, but Cousin Khee is a horse in form and should be suited by the test of speed this ten-furlong contest will provide.

Having failed to live up to expectations during the Turf season, York Gloryhas got back on the right track, winning a pair of all-weather races prior to Christmas; he should prove to be extremely hard to beat in the 19:00 at Wolverhampton if turning up in the same heart following a short break. Though the runner-up was coming back at York Glory last time, he won a shade more cosily than the winning margin would suggest, travelling powerfully through the race before quickening up in good style to hit the front. He very much sets the standard this evening and is a confident selection.
