Gordon Ellliott: My Fairyhouse runners and latest news on Don Cossack

Gordon believes Romanesco is well treated back over hurdles

With Fairyhouse passing a 8am inspection ahead of today's racing, we get Gordon Elliot's thoughts on his runners at the Co. Meath venue...

13.55 Fairyhouse - Pumped Up Kicks

She ran well first time out over hurdles at Limerick over 2m5f at the back end of last year. I was a bit disappointed with her run the last day, back at the same track. We are taking 7lb off her back this time around and I think this will definitely help her. We would like to think she will run a good race if she can repeat the same form she showed at Limerick in November.

14.25 Fairyhouse - Goal

He's a horse that was sent to me recently by the well-known football agent and owner, Willie McKay, after being trained on the flat in the UK by Charles Smith and Richard Guest prior to that. He set a good standard on the flat (Highest OR 74) and he will definitely come on for his first run over hurdles, and in time he may be seen to greater effect on some better ground. I'd like to think he could run a good race, as he has been working well at home and could be quite a nice recruit to hurdling.

15.25 Fairyhouse - Romanesco

He was recently purchased by Gigginstown House stud and reverts back to hurdles here, after a good spell over fences, in which he finished a superb second to Colbert Station in the Paddy Power chase at Leopardstown over Christmas. I'd like to think he is quite well treated back over the smaller obstacles, and he has 19lb in hand of his chase rating which hopefully he can take advantage of.

Again, a bit of a sounder surface may see him to better affect, but in saying that I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes back over hurdles and he should give a good account of himself. We will be looking at aiming him at all the good handicap chases for the remainder of the season, with the Grand National at Aintree remaining a firm possibility.

16.25 Fairyhouse - Vicky Miller

This looks a competitive race, however we think she is a nice filly and she has been working well up to this point. We have the very capable David O'Leary booked to take the ride and we would like to think she will run well. The testing ground, first time out, may not be ideal however she is well bred and whatever she does here she will come for the run, and is one to look forward to once she gets a bit of race experience under her belt.

A quick work from Gordon on Don Cossacks run at Punchestown on Sunday

I was very happy with how he ran; he came up against a very good horse in Mozoltov and just came up a bit short on the day. He ran right to the line, and now we can look forward to the future with him again and start to make plans for the coming weeks and months.
