Follow The Money: Wood to score for McCain at Carlisle

The trainer of our second bet of the day

Two backs at Carlisle, one lay at Southwell from the FTM team

We start at Carlsle where The Friary has been well supported from 5.14/1 in to 4.47/2 in the 15:30. This lightly-raced point winner showed a good aptitude for fences behind the useful Red Rocco at Kelso last time, staying on right to the line and jumping well. He's yet to win a race under rules but he's on a nice little mark and should be more than up to this grade. He should be well suited to Carlisle and despite the lack of experience looks worth taking a chance on.

Staying at Carlisle and despite an early drift Corrin Wood has been hammered in from a high of 11.58n/a in to 5.24/1 for Donald McCain. Things went totally wrong for him last time out where he was defeated at 1/4 in a novice hurdle. He wouldn't be the first short priced favourite to be beaten at those odds at Kelso however so perhaps it's best to forget that run. Prior to that he looked a seriously promising hurdler, just losing out to Gevrey Chambertin who has a massive reputation and also winning easily at this course. Based on both those runs his mark of 127 is surely lenient, and he could be hard to beat if back to form.

Finally, today's drifter comes from Southwell where in the 16:45 Entitlement is on the drift from 2.486/4 to 2.8615/8 for James Fanshawe. She's a lightly-raced filly but has no experience of this fibresand surface and only won her last race by a nose which has left her on a 3lb higher mark. She tends to take a while to get going in her races and that doesn't really suit the track if they don't go a good pace which looks likely.
