Prince James should appreciate the step up in trip at Wolverhampton
Today's follow the money comes from Lingfield and Wolverhampton...
Our first bet of the day comes in the 14:20 at Lingfield where Shernando has been backed from 3.814/5 into 2.982/1. Nicky Henderson's gelding was a fairly useful perfomer on the level over 1m - 1m4f and won on his only AW start (albeit on the Southwell fibresand). He hasn't been disgraced in four starts over timber so far having been placed twice on ground softer than ideal. With the return to a true surface and AP McCoy doing the steering, it may be worth backing Shernando to win here. His main rival is likely to be the once classy Ransom Note who was a very useful miler on the flat. However, this new Nigel Twiston-Davies recruit failed to sparkle on his debut over timber at Kempton and may not be the force of old.
Our second selection is in the 15:30 at Wolverhampton where Asterism has drifted out to 2.789/5 having been matched at 2.21n/a. The five-year-old mare has not raced since September 2011 and it may be worth taking her on after such a lengthy absence. She won her maiden over a mile and a half at Kempton and the drop in trip to 1m1f may not provide a stiff enough test of stamina for this mare against some fairly consistent rivals.
Our final bet of the day comes in the 17:00 at Wolverhampton where Prince James has been well supported from a high of 12.011/1 into 5.79/2. Mick Easterby's gelding has been woefully out of form since scoring at Redcar in November, but the four time course winner over 5 - 6 furlongs steps up to 7f today and the extra furlong may bring about some improvement. Having won races at this course off a mark of 65, he looks well placed to exploit his new mark of 60 over the extra distance.
