Premier League Results: No change at the top as United and City win

Van Persie scored after just 31 seconds v West Ham

The two Manchester Clubs extended their advantage over the rest with hard-earned victories tonight, though Rafa Benitez was once again booed as Chlesea could only draw at home to Fulham...

The Premier League is starting to look a two horse race after Manchester United and neighbours City both won this evening whilst nearest pursuers Chelsea could manage only a second successive draw under new boss Rafa Benitez.

Leaders United looked set for a comfortable evening after Robin van Persie - backed at just 4.77/2 to score first - put the Red Devils ahead after just 31 seconds, but to some surprise, the remaining 93 and a half minutes remained goalless. The 1-0 Correct Score was matched at a generous 34.033/1 In-Play with Betfair layers clearly expecting more goals.

City's win, although eventually by a wider margin, looked in more doubt as a dogged Wigan side battled hard at the DW Stadium. But goals from Mario Balotelli and James Milner midway through the second half won the points for the defending champions who remain just one point behind United.

Man City were matched at a high of 2.427/5 to win the game which by pure coincidence is the same price that they can be backed at in the Premier League Winner market.; Man Utd are available to back at 2.265/4.

Chelsea are out to 8.88/1 to win the title after drawing 0-0 at home to Fulham, a result that was met with a chorus of boos aimed at Benitez as the final whistle sounded. The draw was backed at 5.24/1 with the 0-0 score matched at 21.020/1, and it leaves the Blues seven points adrift of the league leaders.

In the night's other big encounters Tottenham beat Liverpool 2-1 whilst Everton and Arsenal played out a 1-1 draw.

Gareth Bale was the man in the news at White Hart Lane, setting up the first goal for Aaron Lennon (backed at 25.024/1 to score first), scoring the second himself, and then registering an own goal to put Liverpool back in the game. Spurs touched a high of 2.6813/8 In-Play with the 2-1 Correct Score being matched at 11.5n/a.

Comeback of the night went to Stoke, who came from 1-0 down late on to beat Newcastle 2-1, a result that means Alan Pardew's men have now lost four consecutive league games. The Potters were backed at 40.039/1 to win the game when trailing.

Elsewhere Swansea (2.466/4 to win) halted West Brom's remarkable run with a 3-1 win at the Liberty Stadium, whilst at St Mary's Southampton and Norwich played out a 1-1 draw.
