Gordon has four runners in Ireland today
Gordon Elliott chats to Betfair about his Saturday runners at Leopardstown and Limerick...
12.25 Leopardstown - Tarquinius
He's had a busy enough year but he hit a good run of form lately and he enjoys his racing. He was pulled up in a handicap chase at Fairyhouse last time and while it's been suggested that the trip was too far, I think he was feeling the effects of a number of races. Perhaps I had brought him back a little too early following his win at Punchestown a couple of weeks previous but he's now had most of the month off so I hope he'll be back in form - he jumps very handy and he stays well so we'd be hopeful for a place.
13.30 Leopardstown - Toner D'Oudairies
He made a couple of errors in a beginners chase at Gowran last time out but he normally jumps well enough and he's schooling well at home. The trip should suit and at five years of age, he's still open to improvement so we hope he runs a nice race and he's in with a chance. It's a competitive race though, and Real Article looks the one to beat here.
13.40 Limerick - Barney's Honour
This is his first run for our yard so it's very much a learning experience. He ran well enough in some handicaps for Philip Rothwell last year but he's been away from the racecourse since so I can't really say with any certainty how he will run. He's eight years of age and has plenty of racing experience so I hope he goes well but he'll probably come on for the run and we'll know a bit more once we race him a couple of times.
14.35 Leopardstown - Mae's Choice
She's a useful mare and was second in a beginners chase at Thurles in November but she ran below her best when fourth (of eight runners) in a novice chase at Cork last time. I hope she can improve on that as she didn't seem herself and we are keen to get some black type with her. It's a competitive race with the likes of Glens Melody and Zuzka both entered but she's in good form at home and I'd be happy to see her run into a place.
