Wolverhampton Placepot: Friday December 21

Matt Gardner heads to Wolverhampton on Friday.

Timeform's Matt Gardner focuses on Wolverhampton for Friday's Placepot...

15:15 - Overrider has the best form on offer but he has had plenty of chances and doesn't look entirely straightforward, so can be taken on with the brace of once-raced fillies, Barbsiz and Multilicious. The former hinted at ability amidst greenness on debut and may do better with that experience under her belt whilst Multilicious ought to be suited by this slight drop in trip and is another that could improve.

15:50 - Market support for the Tom Dascombe-trained newcomer Spymistress would be of note but this looks set to be fought out between Midnight Flower and Sherinn. The first mentioned seems sure to run her race but if Sherinn could return to the form of her Newmarket debut she would take some stopping and it is of interest that trainer Roger Varian has equipped the filly with a hood, so she is the one that makes the ticket.

16:20 - 10 runners go to post for the third leg, and we will stick in our second banker of the day in the shape of Monumental Man. The three-year-old showed much improved form to get off the mark at Lingfield recently, where he was returned to five furlongs for the first time since his debut, and the suspicion is that he will prove hard to beat, let alone keep out of the first three.

16:50 - Few make any real appeal here but the pair to side with are First Rebellion and Lord Buffhead, who both made the frame last time and look to have solid each-way claims. Chateau Lola is likely to prove popular with this being a fairly weak affair but her lack of consistency is her undoing and she is not an ideal Placepot candidate, so will not be included.

17:20 - Time for our third and final banker, with the Mark Johnston-trained Staffhoss taken to follow up his Lingfield win earlier this month. The two-year-old may be ideally suited by further in time but he is the least exposed in this field and is open to further improvement so is certainly one to keep on side.

17:50 - Big Sylv would have made plenty of appeal but, with the three-year-old being a non-runner, we will instead take both Michael's Nook and Justcallmehandsome. The former hasn't been at his best this year but went with a bit more promise on his first start for this yard at Kempton two days ago and will compete here off a career-low mark of 49. Justcallmehandsome has a six month absence to overcome but has won 11 times at this track and is potentially well-treated, so is a difficult one to discount.
