Paulo Di Canio has always been a bit of a character
Swindon take on Tranmere Rovers in League One tonight and despite their opponents being top of the table, the home side are odds-on, which is somewhat baffling to Paul Robinson.
Swindon were one of the favourites for promotion before the season began but we're almost half way through it and they are only seventh with 36 points. Clearly they are still in good shape to be there at the death come May time, however I'd like to have seen a bit more from Paulo Di Canio's side thus far.
The Italian has seen his team struggle at home in recent weeks; one victory in their last seven at The County Ground and two defeats. The Robins just aren't scoring enough at present, firing three blanks in that period and if we take out the four they scored against Yeovil, they haven't scored more than once at home in their last quartet of fixtures.
Tranmere made a blistering start to their campaign and that's why they're still top of the pile despite a drop off in form. It's now no win in five for Ronnie Moore's men, but the saving grace for us is that they've lost just one of those.
Away from Prenton Park, Rovers have fell to only one defeat all season and they are unbeaten in four. What will please the manager is that they have kept three clean sheets in that run and conceded just once in the other.
Swindon are a team who struggle to score at home and Tranmere are a team who concede few on the road. Di Canio's side are just too short at odds-on and it's questionable if they should even be favourites. Therefore at around the 1.9620/21 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
