Chisnall can upset the odds after his second-round workout.
It's time to get back to the serious festive business of PDC World Championship darts, and Jaymes Monte has picked out his best bet...
There are a couple of third round matches today that would be worthy finals at any tournament throughout the year, including this one; Gary Anderson taking on Raymond van Barneveld later tonight and Simon Whitlock up against Dave Chisnall this afternoon. The odds-against price of both Anderson and Chisnall make each of them the most appealing bets, but it is the Englishman who is my selection for today.
Chizzy and Whitlock have dropped just one set between them in the tournament so far, although it is The Wizard who has had the more comfortable route to this point as Daryl Gurney pushed Chisnall all the way in their second round clash; a workout that may just stand Chisnall in good stead.
The two players have near identical tournament three-dart averages, with The Wizard posting 95.92 and Chizzy at 95.67, but it is the head-to-head record between the pair that leads me to think that we should be taking the 2.6413/8 available in the Match Odds market.
For two players so apparently evenly matched it's surprising to see one have such a sizeable advantage in past duels between the pair. Of 14 previous clashes over the past two years Chisnall has won 10 and Whitlock just four, with each player winning once each in front of the television cameras.
Of course doing it here, at Ally Pally, on the big stage is another matter entirely. But such a weighted advantage in favour of the player priced at odds of 2.6413/8 means we must get involved.
