Follow The Money: Cornish looks the cream at Lingfield

Follow The Money where today's three selections come from the cards at Ascot and Lingfield.

Our first selection, the day's negative, comes at Ascot and in the 2m6f Handicap Hurdle at 15:05, Spanish Arch has eased in the market out to 3.613/5 from 3.02/1. An open looking event where three last time out winners take each other on with not much to separate them. The selection who won well last time out on his handicap debut having previously put up so reasonable efforts both in bumpers and a couple of novice hurdles. He has a penalty to carry for that effort and, although open to improvement, so are some of his rivals. With conditions likely to prove very testing he may well come unstuck today.

Next up we go to Lingfield and in the 1m4f Handicap at 15:20 there has been solid support for Thecornishcowboy who has come in to 2.6413/8 from 3.7511/4. Despite there being only four runners this still looks competitive with a case to be made for all of them. Thecornishcowboy comes here having run respectably over 1m2f under a double penalty last week. Prior to that he won two on the trot over course and distance and a return to this trip should help, as should the 3lb lower mark he is carrying. He should go close to getting his head back in front again.

Finally we go back to Ascot and in their final race of the day a 2m Listed Bumper there has been decent money for the Philip Hobbs-trained Tiqris who has shortened in to 5.59/2 from 7.87/1. A decent looking race in which some potentially good sorts take their chance. The selection makes his seasonal reappearance having had only the two runs back in the spring. He won on his sole point outing, then for another yard he finished a good second behind one of his current trainers charges at Chepstow in which he caught the eye staying on well at the finish. He is in good hands and although will probably want a bit further in time, the tough conditions should make this a stamina test and that could prove the key today.
