Kempton Placepot: Wednesday December 5

Kempton is the target of today's Placepot.

Timeform's Matt Gardner is targeting the twilight card at Kempton for Wednesday's crack at the Placepot...

15:50 - This is a fairly open event with which to get underway, but the puzzle can be solved by selecting both Dubawi Island and Tuscania. The former has finished in the places on each of his last two starts and, although not convincing with his attitude at Wolverhampton a week ago as he hung markedly left, he ought to be right in the mix once more racing from the same mark. Tuscania shaped well when finishing in the frame over C&D last week and ought to be suited by the likely stronger pace today, so is another that should be there at the finish.

16:20 - We're going to gain few points for originality by including Sherinn but, having shown plenty of promise on debut at Newmarket in August, it is incredibly difficult to advise taking her on for all that she may need further in time. It's also worth sticking in Perfect Venture, who shaped nicely on debut at Salisbury before failing to match that form at this venue next time. However, she is out of a mare from the family of some useful sprinters, including Aahaydon and Take Ten, and could be suited by this drop to six furlongs.

16:50 - Again we're going to play this one with the straightest of bats and rely on the Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Bull Bay who, with three places on offer at the time of writing, really should see us through unscathed.

17:20 - Lyric Piece and Duroble Man seem likely to dominate this so we need only select one. The former is currently proving much more popular in the market so in the hope that he misses out we will side with Duroble Man, who was caught only in the closing stages at Nottingham last month and looks to be on a fair mark ahead of his nursery bow.

17:50 - With nothing holding outstanding claims this is a tightly-knit affair, but one that we definitely want on side is Loyal Royal. The nine-year-old is by no means certain to win but he is almost certain to run his race, which could count for plenty in this, and his recent efforts suggest that he is in good heart. Silvee has been below form since winning at Epsom in July but she took a step back in the right direction at Lingfield last time and is now below her last winning mark, so should go well if on a going day.

18:20 - Another tricky leg to conclude with, and two are needed to safeguard against a late exit. The first to make the ticket is Fire In Babylon, who showed more than of late when finishing fifth over C&D in October and has since joined the yard of Noel Quinlan. The other one to take is Mondego, who is trained in Ireland and shaped as if retaining much of his ability at Dundalk last month. If returning to his best, a BHA mark of 54 strikes as being fairly lenient and he is likely to go close.

Selections:
15:50 - 2, 3
16:20 - 9, 11
16:50 - 3
17:20 - 4
17:50 - 4, 6
18:20 - 7, 13
