Opta Stats: Another clean sheet awaits miserly Chelsea

Chelsea excelled defensively against Tottenham and West Ham

Chelsea will shut out Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich and Shakhtar will deliver a low score, judging by these Opta nuggets...

Both games are on Wednesday at 19:45

Bayern Munich v Shakhtar (Sky Sports 1)

The first leg between Bayern Munich and Shakhtar produced only nine shots

No 2014/15 Champions League match has delivered fewer shots than the goalless first leg of this tie and several statistics suggest that there will be under 2.5 goals again at the Allianz Arena.

Opta reveal that Bayern Munich haven't conceded as hosts in the competition this term, Shakhtar haven't scored in their last four meetings with German opposition and Bayern's three prior home games against Ukrainian clubs were all won by one-goal margins.

Recommended Bet: Back under 2.5 goals @ 2.588/5

All four Champions League goals conceded by Shakhtar in 2014/15 came in the 68th minute or later

Shakhtar boast the magnificent record of not conceding in the first half of any of their past ten Champions League fixtures. For their part, Bayern have been breached before the break just once in their seven continental clashes this season. The second half unsurprisingly outdid the first for goals in three of Shakhtar's last four European outings.

Recommended Bet: Back the second half to have more goals @ 2.0621/20

Chelsea v Paris St-Germain (Sky Sports 5)

Chelsea are unbeaten at home against French sides, keeping five clean sheets in those six games

The Blues are through if they don't concede and no coach on the planet enjoys that sort of scenario more than Jose Mourinho, whose defensive organisation was masterful as they shut out Tottenham and West Ham in their most recent two encounters. Paris St-Germain were kept quiet at Stamford Bridge last April in what Opta note was their fifth successive failure to fire away to an England team.

Recommended Bet: Back Chelsea to keep a clean sheet @ 2.466/4

Eden Hazard has been fouled 28 times in this term's Champions League, more than any other player

Opta take this insight even further by imparting that nine of those fouls were committed by Paris St-Germain players in the first leg, the highest number seen in this edition of the tournament. It didn't translate to the Londoners winning a penalty on that occasion, but there is a strong chance that does happen at the Bridge. There were four converted spot kicks in the past four Champions League matches at the stadium.

Recommended Bet: Back there to be a penalty taken @ 4.57/2
