Doncaster Mile: Timeform's runner-by-runner guide

Andrew Balding saddles leading fancy Highland Knight

On a fairly low-key weekend of racing, Timeform concentrate on trying to find the winner of the Doncaster Mile...

Chandlery has not been seen since winning 7f Vintage Stakes at Goodwood as a juvenile, when also a good second in Superlative Stakes at Newmarket. Should stay 1m, and market will be informative on belated return.

Don't Call Me won 2 competitive handicaps last year and as good as ever at Meydan this season, running creditably on all 5 starts there. Fourth in Group 2 last month, and not dismissed on domestic return.

Gabrial progressed well at 3 yrs, landing Silver Bowl at Haydock, and wasn't disgraced in Group company thereafter (third to Frankel in Sussex Stakes). Gelded since last seen, and may have more to offer.

Highland Knight was better than ever last year, winning listed race at Pontefract and Group 2 event at Baden-Baden in August. Below form on soft ground final start, but should go well on seasonal reappearance.

Sovereign Debt won an Ascot handicap in May and 1m Newmarket minor event in July. Further progress when second in Salisbury Group 3 in August, and stiff tasks on final 2 starts. One to bear in mind at this level.

Stand My Ground was runner-up in 1m listed contest at St Cloud in November 2011 for Pia Prandt, and took minor event at Angers last autumn. New yard revitalised a similar type to win this race last year.

Moonstone Magic quickly propelled herself into the big time with wins in maiden at Leicester and Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury last spring. Well held in 1000 Guineas, and not seen since, however. NON RUNNER.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Highland Knight
2. Sovereign Debt
3. Don't Call Me

Timeform View: Highland Knight was better than ever last season, and should be well enough forward to take this listed race on his return. Sovereign Debt is the biggest threat on form, although the proven fitness of Don't Call Me means he also merits consideration.
