Football League: Doncaster can still pip the Cherries

With the Football League's three divisions nearing their curtain calls, Christian Crowther checks out the value in the remaining markets...

Championship
After bouncing back from defeat to play-off rivals Leicester in midweek, Bolton's top-six aspirations were boosted with a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday. Dougie Freedman's Wanderers are currently priced at 2.0421/20 to claim a top-six spot and, looking at their form and run-in, this has to be worth considering. That win was Bolton's fourth in five league games as they prepare to face Cardiff and Blackpool in the final two fixtures of the season. With their coronation as champs confirmed, Cardiff will surely offer reduced resistance, while Blackpool's run of just five wins in 22 and likely lack of incentive (assuming they are safe from relegation) will render their last day trip to the Reebok Stadium a dead rubber. In the relegation market, Bolton's Lancashire rivals Blackburn are available at 6.86/1 for the drop, but only two points above safety with three games left. Two of those games are on the road, and considering Rovers have lost six of the last seven trips away from Ewood Park - including the 4-0 to Watford on Saturday - this would appear the value bet.

League One
The chameleonic nature of the League One title/promotion race has ensured excitement right to the wire. Now, with just one game to go, punters are left with a scenario where two teams can still win the league and another, Brentford could squeeze into the second automatic place by beating second-placed Doncaster at Griffin Park. Current leaders Bournemouth are the only one of that triumvirate already assured of promotion, although they could lose out on the title if Donny manage to beat Brentford. Backing Rovers to claim the League One crown at 6.25/1 by achieving that win in west London, with the already promoted Cherries dropping points away at Tranmere, has to be the value bet.

League Two
League Two has it going on at both ends of the table with the last play-off place still up for grabs and a whole host of clubs that could yet taste the final-day heartbreak of relegation. Cheltenham must beat Bradford to stand a chance of going up automatically, but that task is made much harder by the fact in-form Rotherham above them play host to bottom side Aldershot with their own destiny in their hands. Of more interest to the punter is the question of which two of the seven endangered teams will drop out of the Football League. Despite starting the game one point above AFC Wimbledon - currently in the other relegation slot - Barnet have a tricky looking fixture away at Northampton, who are still able to affect who their play-off opponents will be, whereas Wimbledon have a home game against mid-table Fleetwood. Wimbledon can be laid against relegation at 2.245/4.
