The exciting Oscars Well can get back to winning ways for Jessica Harrington at Navan
We have picked out three SmartPlays on today's card at Navan...
Jane Mangan has been seen to good effect on numerous occasions this season, including on Beef To The Heels for Gordon Elliott, and she has been handed another good opportunity by Elliott on Roi du Mee in the handicap hurdle at 13:50. Better known these days as a smart chaser, Roi du Mee has won a Grade 3 chase at Punchestown and a listed one at Thurles already this term, and he looks to have been given a real chance by the handicapper on his first try in a handicap hurdle. He had to shoulder top weight (ITC mark of 148) in the Irish Grand National last season but gets in here off a relatively modest 118. Conditions will suit and he gets the nod ahead of the rejuvenated Away We Go.
Oscars Well made a really impressive start over fences at Punchestown in October and he can get his chasing career back on track in the novice at 14:25. His fall at the same track last time is best put down to a temporary lapse of concentration for now as he had jumped really well first time, and he was far superior to these over hurdles.
Marasonnien quickly made up into a useful novice hurdler last season and he can get off the mark over fences in the 15:00. He showed that three miles on heavy ground holds no fears for him when landing a Grade 1 novice hurdle at the Punchestown Festival last season and, significantly, he also has plenty of experience over fences having finished runner-up twice over the larger obstacles in France.
