PDC World Championship Tips: King to reign at Palace

King can edge a tough first round match then go on to latter stages.

Jaymes Monte picks out his best bet from Tuesday night's PDC World Championships action...

Dean Winstanley has made an impressive start to his PDC career and I expect this will be the last time in a long time that we see the Yorkshireman as an unseeded player at Alexandra Palace. Over The Top is certainly one of the top 32 players in PDC darts and Mervyn King will be deeply disappointed that he wasn't afforded a much easier draw.

King is now up to number 14 in the world rankings and would have been hoping for a deep run at Ally Pally this winter, but if he is to achieve that then he'll need to overcome the most difficult of possible first round opponents.

With Winstanley only moving over to the PDC at the start of this year it isn't too surprising to learn that the pair have yet to cross paths in competitive action. Leaving us with no past head-to-head form to consider. What we do know is that King has the experience of playing on this big, literally and figuratively speaking, Ally Pally stage. And that factor could just tip this match in favour of The King.

Winstanley has been guilty of missing a few crucial doubles in big matches this year, although he showed signs that he may have put that behind him at the Grand Slam of Darts, and, even when he looks like his out of a leg, King is the type of player who often applies pressure to his opponent just before they step up to throw at winning doubles.

This has all the hallmarks of an epic five-setter, and the momentum is likely to ebb and flow between both players, but at odds of 1.824/5 I feel there is value in siding with King.
