Will Little Josh triumph at Aintree?
Today's movers come from the meetings at Chepstow and Aintree.
We start at Chepstow where there has been support for Rangitoto in the 3m Handicap Hurdle at 14:40, currently trading at 3.7511/4 from an early 4.57/2. After making a winning debut when switched to fences the seven-year-old has struggled thereafter, falling on his next start and then blundering away his chance when reappearing at this course back in October. However he's switched back to hurdles here and looks an interesting contender off a mark of 125, having won comfortably enough off of 119 when last seen over the smaller obstacles at Cheltenham last November. Although yet to prove he stays the three mile trip the fact he's been staying on when winning over slightly shorter indicates that shouldn't prove his undoing and with champion trainer Paul Nicholls sounding hopeful the money indicates this could prove more than a confidence boosting exercise.
We go to Aintree for our next selection where Little Josh has been well-backed to land the 2m5f Handicap Chase at 15:20, now available to back at 4.84/1 having been as high as 6.9n/a. The former Paddy Power Gold Cup winner is another that seems to have lost his way a bit, struggling to get competitive in his races since including when only finishing seventh here when favourite for the Topham over the National fences back in April, and makes his seasonal reappearance here today. However the ten-year-old has now dropped to a mark 3lb lower than when achieving that big-race success and the testing conditions will be in his favour, having regularly won on soft and heavy during his career. With a first -time tongue-tie applied and trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies no stranger to getting one ready first time up, the market move suggests he could be ready to resume winning ways.
We go back to Chepstow for today's negative where Ofaolains Boy continues to drift in the 2m Bumper at 15:45, out to 2.747/4 from 2.021/1. Having been purchased for 100,000GBP after impressing in a point-to-point the five-year-old ran third behind two promising sorts in a bumper at Newbury nine days ago, albeit being beaten by 15 lengths, and comes here with the best form in the book. However the Rebecca Curtis runner faces two newcomers today from well-respected stables and punters have taken a particular liking to David Pipes' Saucy Baron, who has displaced Ofaolains Boy as the current favourite. The negative vibes suggest the latter can be taken on.
