Timeform Radio Tips: Taurus Means business at Windsor

Summer can't be that far round the corner - racing by the Thames at Windsor is back for the first time in 2013, with the first Monday evening of the season just seven days away. This afternoon's card is the pick of the three Flat fixtures on offer, with the ground likely to be soft after an inch of rain in the last week, although conditions have been dry since Saturday. Whether or not the runners go to the far side in the straight, a favoured tactic on soft here, rather complicates matters, but hopefully all things will be equal for the following pair of selections.

Taurus Twins, who runs in the five-furlong handicap at 14:50, regularly makes an early visit to Windsor, needing the run when reappearing here in 2010 and 2012, but winning over course and distance in 2011. Significantly that year he had had the benefit of a previous outing and that is the case again this afternoon, following a narrow defeat at Wolverhampton a week ago on his first outing of the year. Taurus Twins has a much higher mark on turf, but he deserves that and is fairly weighted on his best form of last year - he looks to have plenty going for him.

The likely favourite in the mile handicap at 15:50 is the Spring Mile runner-up Boots And Spurs. He showed improved form in chasing home Educate at Doncaster and has a clear chance of going one better. However, he had a hard race that day and this very different track may not suit him so well. There is also a thoroughly unexposed sort against him in the shape of Mean It. He showed plenty of promise in two maidens for Tom Tate last summer and looks to have a fair mark starting out in handicaps with a good chance of more to come. Mean It's pedigree suggests he should be a lot better than a mark of 77 indicates, while he has switched stables, to David Simcock, since last summer. The obvious negative with him is his absence since winning easily at Haydock in July, but such is his potential that it's worth chancing Mean It's well-being against much more exposed rivals.
