Timeform examine an interesting handicap chase at Exeter

Timeform analyse each runner in a marathon handicap chase at Exeter...

Upham Atom was back to his very best in cheekpieces when gamely fending off rivals in the mud at Taunton (29f) last month, but needs to scale greater heights to follow-up off revised mark.

Sea Saffron is a veteran who goes well at this track, numbering this race amongst 3 wins here in 2012. Good second over C&D last month and likely to make a stout defence of his crown.

Global Power has not been disgraced most outings since opening chasing account at Fontwell (2m) in October, but stamina stretched upped to 33f at Uttoxeter last month, and remains vulnerable to stronger stayers.

Reblis landed 3 handicaps at up to 3m last season. Even better when runner-up on debut for yard at Warwick in December, but miserable efforts since, and questions to answer now.

Mobaasher hasn't been anywhere near his best under Rules for a long time and is probably best left alone after refusing back in a handicap last month.

Jaunty Journey belied poor jumping to get competitive in a few staying handicap chases in 2012, but poor efforts all 3 outings since the turn of the year, and others less to prove for the time being

Double Dizzy has produced largely respectable efforts without managing to get head in front this term. Remains difficult to win with, but unwise to overlook in view of plummeting mark and gauranteed stamina.

The Clyda Rover relished this stiffer test when beating Sea Saffron with something to spare over C&D last month. More on plate to follow-up, but remains unexposed at this marathon trip.

Dermatologiste is a thorough stayer who displayed a good attitude to regain the winning thread at Wetherby (25f) last month. Never been the most consistent, though, and this tougher off revised mark.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. The Clyda ROver
2. Sea Saffron
3. Double Dizzy

Timeform View: The Clyda Rover relished the extra emphasis on stamina when accounting for last year's winner Sea Saffron over this C&D last month, and is taken to confirm the form on the revised terms. Double Dizzy isn't the easiest to win with, but could also have a say in matters now the handicapper has cut him plenty of slack.
