Timeform look at a handicap chase at Perth

Timeform examine the runners in a competitive handicap chase on the second day of Perth's three-day meeting...

Rody has won of 4 of 6 starts over fences, posting smart effort when beating King Edmund in 4-runner race at Wincanton (2m) recently. 7 lb rise demands further progress but he is going right way.

Micheal Flips hails from a yard enjoying a good run and back to very best when scoring over this trip at Ludlow earlier in month. Up 9 lb for that but should be competitive if turning up in similar form.

Renard found some improvement when third in handicap at Newbury (17f) in December. Matched that form when second at Chepstow 2 months later, but not at best last twice, albeit in competitive races.

Frontier Spirit has won handicaps at Ffos Las (19f) and Newbury (2m) this term. Ran well when third in a well-contested affair at Haydock last time and no reason he won't give another good account.

Quincy des Pictons landed a hat-trick of 2m chase wins last season. Back to best when runner-up at Haydock last month and big player if he can build on that now.

Green Belt Elite took very well to chasing in 2009/10, winning 3 of his 4 starts. The length of his absence has to be a worry but yard has enjoyed a cracking season and unlikely he'll lack for fitness.

Silver Roque has been much improved for this yard, winning at Bangor and Newbury. Did run poorly with cheekpieces refitted at Aintree last time and no surprise to see those left off now. Capable of bouncing back.

Devotion To Duty was back to his best when recording second chasing win in this headgear at Newcastle (2m) last month, but rarely strings good runs together and wasn't in same form when sixth at Carlisle since.

Door Boy won this race for Howard Johnson in 2011. Good second at Haydock last spring, but hasn't been at best in 3 starts since, well-held fourth at Musselburgh when last seen in January.

Mac Aeda has been in good form without winning this season, finishing an excellent second to Battle Group at Aintree (25f) last time. Drop back to 2m won't inconvenience and leading claims.

Brunswick Gold has been largely consistent since scoring at Catterick (25f) in January 2012, though cheekpieces do need to see him pull out some improvement if he's to get back to winning ways here.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Mac Aeda
2. Quincy des Pictons
3. Micheal Flips

Timeform View: A useful contest. Mac Aeda was no match for a handicap blot at Aintree last time, but he still beat 16 others on that occasion and is taken to go one better now off the same mark. Quincy des Pictons, Michael Flips and Rody head the dangers.
