Paul saddles four runners at Wincanton on Sunday
Betfair Ambassador Paul Nicholls may be starting to wind down for the season but he still has plenty of horses fit and ready to race, including these four at Wincanton on Sunday...
13:40 Wincanton - Suerte Al Salto
Won his bumper at Fontwell last season with some cut in the ground and proved he handled soft ground when second over 2m4f at Taunton back in November. But I certainly wouldn't want any more rain for him here, as I think he is much better on better ground. Has run two solid races in handicap company off a mark of 120 over course and distance recently, and a reproduction of those efforts ought to see him go close. But keep an eye on the weather if you are backing him. Looks to have Fair Trade to beat.
14:10 Wincanton - Southfield Theatre
I have always thought a lot of this horse, but he is another of mine running at this meeting who I would be concerned about if the going got too soft. He impressed when winning his bumper at Cheltenham in October and, although he ran ok, I thought he struggled in the very testing conditions when third at Sandown in December. He was not overly-impressive when winning at odds-on over 3m at Exeter last month but the second ran well in defeat in handicap company next time, and I think today's 2m4f could be his optimum trip for the time being. I am confident of a big run if there isn't too much rain; if there is, I am not, especially as this is quite a competitive little novice.
16:20 Wincanton - Jump City
Is the one of my four entries at this meeting who will not mind if there is plenty of rain. That said, arguably his best performance to date came on fast ground at Taunton last time when he was second to Hunt Ball. And he races off the same mark here. But he is clearly equally effective in the soft, as he showed in his two wins this season. In fact, 2m in testing ground could be his ideal conditions. Looks set to run a big race.
16:50 Wincanton - Foggy's Wall
Got off the mark at the third time of asking when winning a bumper over course and distance in November, beating God's Own, who has gone on to prove himself a decent hurdler. He has been off since, mainly waiting for better ground, so if it does pour down over the weekend that would worry me. And he has a tough task under his penalty anyway against some fair sorts in here. But he is a decent prospect, so let's see.
