Nell Gwyn Result: Cecil running Hot at Newmarket

Cecil was an impressive winner of the Nell Gwyn Stakes

Hot Snap came from last to first to win the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket for Sir Henry Cecil...

Hot Snap was Cecil's first runner of the season on turf and was sent off as a 10-1 chance.

A half-sister to Cecil's great mare Midday, Hot Snap was last in the early stages but she quickened up really well for Tom Queally, winning by two and a quarter lengths from the Richard Hannon-trained favourite Sky Lantern.

Ed McMahon's Winning Express came home third.

Cecil said: "She's not there yet. She wants a mile and I expect her to come on for that. She could possibly be a Guineas filly. Otherwise she will be a nice one for Royal Ascot."

"She has only been on the grass once this year and the idea was to give her a bit of time to find her feet. She is coming on and will be much better in three weeks' time."

Confirming that, Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "I would think if Henry's happy we will have to give the Guineas some proper consideration."
