Champion Court registered his third success at Cheltenham
Champion Court, ridden by Ian Popham, prevailed in a driving finish in the Silver Trophy, edging out Menorah...
Without a win since landing the Dipper Novices' Chase on New Year's Day 2012, Champion Court had run some creditable races in defeat, including when fifth behind Cue Card in the Ryanair Chase, and he was sent off as a warm favourite to register an overdue success.
Things looked to be going smoothly as Martin Keighley's charge took the lead as they swung for home, but the complexion of the race changed between the final two fences as Menorah, racing off a handicap mark of 169, threw down a sustained challenge, looking the most likely winner as they touched down over the last fence.
Champion Court, however, responded strongly to pressure, launching a renewed effort as he forged ahead close home, passing the line with three-quarters of a length to spare over Menorah. Hunt Ball was a further 12 lengths back in third.
