Grand National News: Prince beaten at Fairyhouse

Roi du Mee won for Gordon Elliott

Roi Du Mee made all to land the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse as Prince De Beauchene and Seabass had to settle for minor honours...

That pair, trained by Willie Mullins and Ted Walsh respectively, both feature prominently in the ante-post lists for the Grand National but had to be satisfied with place money behind the Gordon Elliott-trained Roi du Mee.

Davy Russell executed an excellent front-running ride aboard Roi Du Mee, with last year's winner Prince De Beauchene travelling on his heels for much of the three-mile-one-furlong trip.

The pair were racing alongside each other coming to the fourth-last fence but a mistake from Prince De Beauchene saw him lose some momentum. He soon came back on the bridle for Paul Townend and as the race got serious two fences from home, Katie Walsh produced Seabass to launch his challenge.

Roi Du Mee proved game up front and despite moving across to the stands rail, he kept finding for Russell and held off Prince De Beauchene all the way to the line.

Following the Bobbyjo Chase, On His Own, who represents the same connections as Prince de Beauchene, now trades as clear favourite for the Aintree showpiece, with his stablemate, Prince de Beauchene, now available to back at 13.012/1. Seabass is 15.014/1.
