Next Man Utd Manager: Mourinho and Moyes favourites to replace Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season

The day all Man United fans have dreaded is finally here as Sir Alex Ferguson announces his retirement, but who will be taking his mighty reins?

Betfair's next Manchester United manager market has been around for 12 years, dating back to when Sir Alex Ferguson first discussed retirement. Football's landscape has altered so drastically that Louis van Gaal, David O'Leary and Carlos Queiroz all once traded at less than 5.04/1 for the vacancy.

However, what has now become the most anticipated appointment in football management history has already seen punters shaping this into a two-horse race.

After a week of rumours linking Jose Mourinho with a move back to Chelsea, the Special One has now joined Everton's long-touted manager David Moyes as the market leaders.

Current Real Madrid boss Mourinho is the slight favourite at 2.3811/8, with Moyes trading just behind him at 2.727/4, although the prices are changing all the time.

Both men are widely expected to leave their current posts at the end of the season, with some observers suggesting that Moyes has long been earmarked as Fergie's successor.

However, the waters have now been muddied by Mourinho's candid comments about his desire to move back to management in England after a stormy three-year spell at Madrid.

Other notables in the market include Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, available at 10.09/1 and ex-striking legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at 32.031/1, who is nearing the end of his contract with Molde.

Other playing legends Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville are currently available at 60.059/1 and 80.079/1 respectively.

Ferguson leaves a legacy of 38 trophies in his time as United boss, including 13 titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four League Cups.
