Follow The Money: Lock to be the Master of Southwell

Southwell is the venue for all of today's FTM selections

The Follow The Money team will be glued to Southwell today as all three of their selections are from the all-weather venue...

In the 13:50 at Southwell the market principle Jebel Tara has been performing negatively on the exchanges this morning. Trading as low as 2.68/5 it has drifted to a high of 3.259/4. This in-form eight-year-old veteran may have a wealth of experience but he isn't a proven winner with only four wins in 40 starts. Although two of those wins were clocked in his two most recent starts, today he shoulders a 6lbs penalty and is drawn in stall 13. A third race in three weeks may be asking a little too much and confidence has waned considerably.

In the 14:20 Maiden Stakes at Southwell the 3-yo Midaz, trained by Hughie Morrison has been backed from 6.611/2 in to 5.24/1. This is only his second start and he finished in front of a subsequent winner on his debut. He's running a shorter trip today which connections clearly think will suit and he's up against a very modest field where experience is unlikely to count.

Continuing at Southwell and the 16:20 where there has been a considerable confidence in The Lock Master whose price has shortened from 6.611/2 in to 4.77/2. After a couple of sub-standard performances on turf this gelding is being returned to his favoured fibre sand at a track where he performs well at as well as a race he won last year. He's also on the same mark than a year ago. Trainer Michael Appleby has a good record at Southwell and connections will clearly fancy their chances with this six-year-old gelding this afternoon.
